TLDR

Coordinate commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout while tracking schedules, costs, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.

We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager to help oversee commercial construction projects from preconstruction through completion and closeout. This role is ideal for someone with experience working for a commercial general contractor who is ready to expand their project management responsibilities and grow into a Project Manager position.

You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, design professionals, and clients to coordinate project activities, manage documentation, monitor schedules and costs, and help keep projects on track.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of commercial construction projects, including renovations, tenant improvements, and related work.
  • Support all phases of project delivery, from preconstruction and procurement through construction, turnover, and final closeout.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, consultants, Superintendents, and field personnel to ensure timely completion of project activities.
  • Prepare, distribute, track, and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, contracts, and related documents to identify inconsistencies or coordination concerns.
  • Help develop and update project schedules while monitoring progress against established milestones.
  • Track project expenses, purchase orders, committed costs, invoices, change orders, and other financial records.
  • Participate in project meetings with owners, subcontractors, and internal teams; record action items and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Visit jobsites to review progress, document field conditions, and coordinate with Superintendents and project personnel.
  • Assist with material purchasing, delivery schedules, subcontractor sequencing, and jobsite logistics.
  • Maintain communication between field crews, office staff, design professionals, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Support inspections, punch-list completion, warranty coordination, turnover requirements, and project closeout.
  • Flag potential delays, budget issues, scope discrepancies, procurement challenges, and other risks before they affect project delivery.
  • Gradually assume greater responsibility for scheduling, subcontractor coordination, cost tracking, and overall project execution as you progress toward a Project Manager role.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, preferably in project management, project engineering, project coordination, or a related position.
  • Required: Previous experience working for a commercial general contractor.
  • Background in commercial construction, renovation, tenant improvement, or comparable projects.
  • Familiarity with construction documents and processes, including plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, schedules, contracts, and change orders.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, subcontractor coordination, procurement, and project documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, Superintendents, clients, and internal project teams.
  • Experience monitoring schedules, project costs, purchase commitments, procurement activities, and change orders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction or project management software.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, communication, time management, and follow-through.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent hands-on commercial construction experience is also acceptable.
