We are looking for a Backend Team Lead with a product mindset to join us at Candis. The role is a blend of hands-on coding and leadership responsibilities. You will be pivotal in translating complex product requirements into actionable technical solutions, while also guiding and mentoring a team to achieve consistent performance and growth. The role requires not only deep technical proficiency but also strong leadership skills to foster a collaborative and supportive team environment. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency, quality, and innovation of our development processes, driving the success of our product and team.

Why do we need this role?

We need a Backend Team Lead to contribute to translating product requirements into deliverables while bringing expertise in developing SaaS software. This role is crucial for improving our development processes, release cycles, and continuous feedback loops. Additionally, you will support team members in their professional growth and development, whilst also enhancing collaboration within the team and across departments, ensuring smoother workflows and more efficient project delivery.

What are the biggest challenges?

Key challenges include owning a product work-stream and leading a team responsible for a specific domain. You will need to navigate our domain-service based architecture, tracing and solving issues that likely traverse our tech stack from one end to the other. This requires a deep understanding of system design and the ability to troubleshoot and optimise performance issues. Additionally, fostering a collaborative, ego-free environment and contributing to your team members' professional growth are essential to building a united and high-performing team.

What would be achieved over 6 months?

Within six months, you will have become a key and valued member of the team, driving backend implementations forward and making significant improvements in our product development. Decisions would be made on implementation strategies based on product requirements. You will have actively shared knowledge within the team and the wider backend chapter, proposing best practices for maintainable and extendable systems.

By continuing to foster our collaborative environment, conducting code reviews and 1on1's for feedback, you will empower the team's skills and support them in their progression.

Lastly, you will make significant contributions to our processes, such as improving on-call management, refining feedback loops, and developing robust testing strategies. Your efforts after 6 months will result in a more efficient development process and a higher quality product.
