Clojure Backend Engineer
Hi, we're UserZoom - nice to meet you! If you’ve never heard of us before, we help companies get the user experience (UX) insights they need to deliver great digital experiences at scale through our all-in-one software platform (both web and mobile) and professional services teams.
We believe that every company will soon be a digital experience company, and we want to help make those digital experiences better. We do this by providing UX insights to some of the biggest brands in the world so they, in turn, can improve the experience they give their customers.

As part of the Engineering Team, you will have a great opportunity to contribute to building on our SaaS platform. Working alongside our global team (our UZ family can be found in the US, UK, Japan, Czech Republic, Portugal, Spain, and Poland) you will be responsible for creating something truly amazing. As UserZoom grows, so does our focus on your career and personal development. And more importantly, the team here at UserZoom is like a family - we're both supportive and welcoming of new team members, with plenty of social events (if you like to get involved).
We are seeking a Senior Back End Developer to help us shape and execute our product roadmap. This is an opportunity to join a brilliant team and demonstrate your ability to learn fast and scale an early stage product. As the ideal candidate for this job, you’ve had previous experience working at startups and feel comfortable in a self-managed environment.
As a distributed team we’re relying on tools for async collaboration - GitHub, Slack, Zoom, Status Hero, and Whimsical.
The backend is primarily written in Clojure. So if you want to get into functional programming this is the place for you!
Components of the application use RabbitMQ for communication. Our code is well tested and we’re using the Continuous Integration approach to shipping our code: anybody can release changes and we do deployments several times a day.
We’re heavy users of ElasticSearch and PostgreSQL on the search/storage side. Just like everyone else we use S3 and Redis.
Our infrastructure runs on AWS and is powered by Terraform. All our applications are distributed and deployed as Docker container images and run on AWS ECS & Fargate.
We’re trying our best to contribute back to open source whenever possible and we have open sourced a number of our own internal libraries: https://github.com/nomnom-insights?q=&type=public&language=clojure&sort=
We have also written posts about Clojure and spoke at various Clojure conferences, if that’s your cup of tea - we will support you and help with the conference prep.
