The Opportunity:

We’re looking for an Cloud Data Engineer to join our Information technology team.

This role can be mostly remote, however we will on occasion require you to come onsite to our office at 151 Yonge St, Toronto, ON.

Reporting to the Data Architect the Cloud Data Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of the cloud-based Data and analytics Infrastructure for Aviso Wealth. They are also responsible for managing and transforming data into usable state using various tools and technologies in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.

The Cloud Data Engineer be part of the design, development and implementation of a new environment that will enable us to achieve our Azure Cloud goals and transform our technology landscape.

What your day looks like:

  • Plan and implement standards, best practices, and architectural patterns of the modern Azure Synapse Analytics and PowerBI environment spanning across all layers of ingestion, storage/maintenance, and consumption of data
  • Design and develop data processing solutions to process, transform, and move data between services or platform
  • Provide efficient, scalable, and high-performing data lifecycle management across enterprise data platforms
  • Monitor and optimize data platforms ensuring that the solutions perform optimally for cost and performance
  • Facilitate data discovery and design sessions with business stakeholders and other technical team members to gather and analyze database requirements
  • Work with data scientists and stakeholders to make the data usable for strategic decisions.
  • Ensure execution of deliverables using Agile/Scrum management

Requirements

Your experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years proven work experience in data modelling related projects as Data Modeller and Business Analyst
  • Minimum 2 years' experience and demonstrable knowledge of financial services environments
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience on cloud (AWS or Azure) ideally moving from on-prem to public cloud
  • Expert understanding of enterprise data modelling and data governance concepts
  • Excellent project management and communication skills
  • Proficiency in data pipeline development using Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage (ADLS2), Data Factory and/or SSIS, as well as data governance tools, i.e. Purview
  • Understanding of latest solutions around data engineering and big data solutions including - Snowflake DW, Azure Data Solutions - specifically Hadoop, Databricks, Analysis Services, as well as Oracle Cloud
  • Ability to set and communicate a clear strategy to the Aviso’s community of architects and designers
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset
