Connect Engineering Apprenticeship 2022

Airbnb is a mission-driven company dedicated to helping create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. It takes a unified team committed to our core values to achieve this goal. Airbnb's various functions embody the company's innovative spirit and our fast-moving team is committed to leading as a 21st century company.

At Airbnb, we use technology to create human connection all around the world. Our engineering teams see big challenges as opportunities to craft beautiful and scalable solutions that inspire technical innovation both in our company and across the tech and travel industries as a whole. In the Connect Apprenticeship Program at Airbnb, you’ll get the mentorship and tools necessary to become an entry-level software engineer to learn how to start making a real impact on our product.

What is the Connect Apprenticeship Program?

The Connect Program is a paid 6-month program to provide a pathway to entry-level software engineering roles at Airbnb for individuals with nontraditional technical backgrounds.

This may be the program for you if:

  • You do not have a 4-year Computer Science degree (in fact, no degree is required!)
  • Your coding skills were acquired through online courses, community college classes, or a coding bootcamp
  • You have no prior (or less than one year of) professional software engineering experience
  • You are passionate about technology and/or curious about exploring a career in software engineering

Note: If you are a recent graduate with a 4-year computer science degree, or have more than 1 year of professional software engineering experience, please apply directly to our open software engineering positions

About the Six Month Program

In your first three months in the program, you will learn from our Technical Instructor and from Engineers across the company to get up to speed on Airbnb's tech stack. Then, in months 3-6, you'll join an Airbnb engineering team and apply these learnings to begin making real contributions to our codebases. Participation in the apprenticeship program has potential to lead into a full-time engineering role with Airbnb.

You can learn more about the program in our blog series.

You should already have enough coding skills to:

  • Write basic functions and implement control flow in a programming language of your choice (e.g., if statements, for/while loops)
  • Understand the basics of at least one framework (e.g., React, Rails, Express)
  • Convert a problem to code and explain your approach

Application and Interview Process

  • Applications will be open from February 14, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. PT and will close on February 28th at 9:00 a.m. PT
  • You will need to upload your resume, answer three personal essay questions, and share a coding sample
  • Those who move to an onsite (virtual) interview will be evaluated on their ability to effectively talk about technical concepts, as well as complete an onsite coding challenge in the programming language of their choice
  • Onsite (virtual) interview days are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th - Friday, March 18th 2022.
  • Successful applicants from the onsite will be selected to join the apprenticeship program which starts in April 2022.

Program Dates

The program will begin in April 2022 and run until November 2022.
