POSITION DESCRIPTION
KKR is seeking an experienced investment professional to join its Customized Portfolio Solutions (“CPS”) group. CPS was formed in response to clients seeking a smarter way to address the Private Equity asset class. The group often works as an outsourced Chief-Investment Officer that tailors solutions to select clients’ investment objectives. CPS offers full-suite Private Equity solutions, including primary funds, co-investments and secondaries through external manager and KKR investments.
By leveraging KKR’s global platform to help source and evaluate opportunities, CPS is well-positioned to access and make better asset selection decisions than its peers. Access to high-quality managers and an innovative structure versus traditional FOFs has driven CPS’ outperformance with >20% IRRs since inception. Based on the group’s success, AUM is expanding meaningfully and this investment professional will play a key role in this growth.
Strategic, commercial and collaborative, this team member will work alongside a small, entrepreneurial team to source, evaluate, recommend, and monitor private equity investments across buyout, venture capital, distressed and others, through a combination of internally and externally managed funds, as well as co-investments and secondaries. They will assist in broader strategic initiatives and take a leadership role in managing junior investment colleagues. In addition, they will contribute to identifying broader investment themes that influence client allocations and will also be expected to support the firm’s client service and business development teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct thorough due diligence on the most compelling prospective opportunities including analysis of investment strategy, process, organization, realized and unrealized portfolio positions, and performance
- Source and maintain a pipeline of talented fund managers in the target markets
- Source co-investment and secondary opportunities among GP network and conduct due diligence on such opportunities
- Work in conjunction with other investment team members to make investment recommendations on prospective and current investment manager allocations
- Review and monitor the performance of managers and make recommendations for follow-on investments
- Stay current on investment trends, communicate proactively with colleagues, and build and maintaining a network within the manager community
- Assist with the initial negotiation of business terms and contract reviews, make recommendations regarding amendments, and provide general support to the client service/business development teams
- Attend annual meetings and advisory board meetings, as needed
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience including with an organization known for investment excellence and a strong track record of investing in private equity funds, co-investments, and/or secondaries; securities analysis and/or investment banking experience are a plus
- Current full-time MBA student with anticipated graduation date of Spring 2022
- Experience and proven ability to source compelling private fund managers and leverage well-developed manager relationships globally; co-investment and secondaries experience not required, but a plus
- Ability to underwrite managers through the evaluation of both realized and unrealized investments, in addition to qualitative aspects
- Ability to develop and maintain a network with the outside investment community to expand the firm’s knowledge regarding investment opportunities and serve as a source for manager evaluation and reference checks
- Collaborative and active contributor, with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills coupled with qualitative insight
- Superior communication and presentation skills (written and oral) coupled with the requisite level of gravitas to effectively communicate complex ideas at a high level
- Maturity and sound judgment, exhibiting an ability to thrive in cross-functional and cross-business unit settings
- Proven ability to manage demands of multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment, including ability to prioritize time efficiently and handle heavy workloads while remaining attentive to detail
- High level of intellectual curiosity, accountability and drive; self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
- Aptitude for critical and creative thinking across the quantitative and qualitative spectrum
