Data Analyst (Payments)

As a Payments Data Analyst, you will help optimize the performance of our global payment infrastructure by turning transaction data into actionable insights. You will work closely with Payments, Product, Finance, Risk, and Data teams to identify opportunities for improving payment success rates, reducing costs, and delivering a better customer payment experience.
This role combines analytical thinking with a strong understanding of payment flows. You will investigate payment performance, identify trends and anomalies, evaluate experiments, and help drive data-informed decisions across the payments domain.
Responsibilities:
Monitor and optimise payments performance, including approval rates, decline patterns, 3DS flows, timeouts, retries and routing rules.
Analyse and reduce fraud-related declines, collaborate on tuning fraud rules and improving risk thresholds.
Perform deep-dive analyses to discover patterns, trends and new insights across card schemes, PSPs, BINs, countries and methods.
Drive actionable outcomes: update routing logic, cascading strategy, risk rules, issuer-specific heuristics and operational configurations.
Own continuous monitoring: daily health checks, anomaly detection and alerts on key metrics.
Build dashboards and monitoring tools in Metabase / Amplitude / Tableau
Prepare clear and actionable analytics reports for internal teams and leadership.
Evaluate impact of new features, routing changes, ML versions, product experiments and provide data-backed recommendations.
Work closely with Product, Data, ML, Payments Operations and Fraud teams to design and implement improvements end-to-end.
Requirements
You will thrive if you have…
Strong advanced SQL (NoSQL, window functions), ability to build metrics properly
Understanding of PSP behaviour, decline codes, 3DS, issuer logic, routing, tokens, cascading
Understanding of fraud basics (RDR, chargebacks, rule tuning, risk signals)
Ability to translate data into clear actions
Comfortable in a fast-moving, operational environment
Ownership mindset, strong attention to detail
Fluency in Python Data Science stack (Jupyter Notebook, Pandas)
Nice-to-haves:
Knowledge of Russian
Experience with card schemes / PSPs and issuer-specific patterns
Hands-on work with 3DS flows, network tokens, or routing optimisation
Background in fraud prevention (rules, signals, chargebacks)
Work experience in fintech / high-load transactional products
