Data Science Consultant, Discovery & Translational Science

TLDR

Lead data science projects across life sciences, applying multi-omics analytics, NLP and graph-based models to biomedical challenges for pharma and biotech clients.

We are looking for a Discovery and Translational Science Data Science Consultant to join a dynamic team of bioinformatics and data scientist consultants in Barcelona, Spain, within Clarivate Life Sciences & Healthcare (LS&H), reporting to the Discovery and Translational Science Consulting Manager.

This is a unique opportunity to work across our LS&H portfolio and to support innovation in biomedical research by providing bioinformatics and data science services to clients ranging from major pharmaceutical companies to biotech start-ups. We have a great skill set in applying a wide range of computational and systems biology tools to understanding of human disease and the development of novel therapies.

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Data Science

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Data Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, AI/ML, or related field

  • Proven experience in applying advanced analytics, Machine Learning, and AI to solve complex problems in Life Sciences.

  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or R

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), NLP libraries (Hugging Face Transformers, spaCy), knowledge graphs (Neo4J, Amazon Neptune) and biomedical ontologies.

It would be great if you also:

  • Experience with multi-modal AI (combining -OMICs, imaging, and text).

  • Familiar with cloud computing and workflow orchestration tools.

  • Understand Life Sciences concepts (genomics, proteomics, clinical data).

  • Applied your skills in the context of human disease and drug discovery research

  • Experience with large-scale omics datasets and data integration.

  • Exposure to knowledge graphs and RAG systems

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Analyze large-scale biological, clinical, and multi-omics datasets to extract biological insights

  • Develop predictive models for disease progression, drug response, and patient stratification.

  • Design scalable, reproducible workflows for data processing and model deployment using Python, R, and cloud platforms.

  • Integrate structured and unstructured data sources for multi-modal analysis.

  • Build NLP pipelines for entity recognition, ontology mapping, literature mining, and hypothesis generation.

  • Construct, expand and analyze knowledge graphs using graph representation learning techniques (e.g., GNNs, matrix factorization).

  • Create interactive visualizations and reports to share your findings with clients and teammates.

  • Provide technical leadership: mentor teammates, guide best practices, and drive innovation across projects.

About the Team

  • We are a growing team of more than 25 consultants mostly based in Barcelona, Spain with some team members based throughout the rest of Spain and US.

  • We provide a wide range of bioinformatics services supporting clients from big pharma to small biotech start-ups, often leveraging Clarivate’s unique content in drug discovery and translation.

  • Our work is mostly focused on understanding of disease mechanisms, identification of novel targets and translational medicine support through discovery of biomarkers and patient stratification.

  • We also run two consortia with major industry partners around implementation and benchmarking of bioinformatics and Systems Biology algorithms.

  • The team culture is dynamic with focus on collaboration and mutual support

Hours of Work

  • This is a permanent full-time position at 40 hours a week (35 hours during July and August).

  • The position is hybrid going to the office in Barcelona 2-3 times per week.

  • The working schedule is flexible, mostly centered on CET time zone with occasional need to accommodate late or early meetings with US or East Asia time zones.
