Matter Intelligence

Deputy Program Manager

TLDR

Drive execution across complex sensing, airborne, and space programs through integrated plans, risk management, and coordinated technical workstreams.

About Matter Intelligence

Welcome to Matter, where we are building the future of vision AI: pairing a world-first sensor that sees molecular chemistry, temperature, and 3D shape with a Large World Model that will be the most powerful intelligence engine for the physical world. This system doesn't just see what something looks like; it understands everything from a single pixel. We call this Superintelligent Vision.

Our team has delivered technologies to Mars for NASA/JPL, designed advanced sensors for U.S. Defense, and built core infrastructure at OpenAI. We are now building the next generation of space- and airborne-based sensing systems.

About the Role

Matter is hiring a Deputy Program Manager to help drive execution across complex sensing, airborne, and space programs. Reporting to Tim Clark, this role will turn program objectives into coordinated schedules, decisions, risk management, and clear communication across teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain integrated program plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks, and action tracking.

  • Coordinate engineering, operations, supply chain, test, and customer-facing workstreams around shared program outcomes.

  • Prepare program reviews and concise status reporting that surface decisions, tradeoffs, and required follow-through.

  • Support requirements, configuration, verification, and delivery processes with clear ownership and traceability.

  • Identify execution gaps early and work with owners to resolve blockers or escalate decisions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience coordinating complex technical programs with multiple disciplines and dependencies.

  • Strong planning, organization, written communication, and follow-through.

  • Ability to understand technical context well enough to connect schedules, risks, requirements, and decisions.

  • Comfort operating at both detailed working level and concise leadership-review level.

Preferred

  • Experience with aerospace, defense, hardware development, flight programs, or other regulated technical environments.

  • Experience supporting customer, government, or partner reporting and milestone reviews.

  • Familiarity with systems engineering, configuration control, verification, or supply-chain execution.

What Success Looks Like

  • Program plans reflect real dependencies, owners, and risks rather than static reporting.

  • Leadership and technical teams receive clear information in time to make decisions.

  • Milestones, actions, and customer commitments are tracked consistently through completion.

Location

This role is based in El Segundo, CA, and requires onsite work.
