About the role:

The Finance team at Kraken is a group of specialists charged with managing the firm’s liquidity, capital and risk, and providing the overall financial controls and reporting functions for executive decision making, compliance, and audit readiness. Our work contributes directly to Kraken’s success. The newly created Finance Transformation and Platform Operations office within Finance will define our financial data requirements, systems, and processes across all Kraken products, services, geographies, and legal entities. 

We are seeking a Director of Finance Transformation and Platform Operations (FTPO) to join our Finance organization. The Director of FTPO will build and lead a 10-15 person team consisting of the Finance Transformation, Platform Operations, and the Reconciliation teams. As part of the Finance leadership team at Kraken, you will work closely with the CFO and the rest of the Finance leaders to plan, implement, continuously improve, automate, test, and ensure that platform accounting is ready for an audit. You will liaise with our Product, IT and Data teams to drive automation and implement technology-driven projects for the Finance team. 

What you'll do:

• Together with the leadership team in Finance, holistically assess the long term technology needs to provide scalable solutions and support the growth in all Finance functions (Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, and Tax)
• Build and grow the Finance Transformation and Platform Operations (FTPO) team and be the go-to person for leading and driving all technology-driven and automation initiatives for the Finance team
• Oversee and continue to strengthen the Platform Accounting function
• Establish an exceptional Reconciliation team to establish stronger internal controls and to ensure all transactions are properly accounted for in the banking/crypto gateways and in the exchange
• Liaise with the Product, IT and Data teams to build and maintain a real-time  reconciliation tool as well as maintain informative dashboards
• Liaise with external auditors for platform accounting matters 
• Work with the CFO to set the immediate and longer-term strategic direction of the FTPO office by prioritising projects and resources accordingly 
• Communicate progress and challenges with the CFO and COO in a timeline manner and proactively suggest creative solutions and paths forward 
• Provide business requirements to improve data completeness and accuracy, as well as for new products, services, assets, geographies, or legal entities
• Develop key metrics to measure progress and performance for Finance Transformation, Platform Accounting, and the Reconciliation Office team.

Who you are:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; CPA required; MBA preferred
• 15+ years experience and proven track record in finance transformation, finance operations roles in the financial exchanges, financial services or fintech industries; or Big 4 advisory experience in Finance Transformation or similar 
• Knowledge of trading platforms, financial markets and strong passion in cryptocurrency 
• Expertise in Finance Service Delivery, Exchange / Finance Operations, Audit readiness preferred
• Experience in leading a financial services or a tech company complete financial audits
• Ability to translate finance operations needs to technical data requirements 
• Familiarity with databases, EPM, ERP, BI, middle and back office Finance systems / tools 
• Expertise in leading or managing teams and change initiatives 
• Superior critical thinking, problem-solving and project management skills
• Ability to communicate complex topics and influence others 
• Ability to establish strong working relationships across all functions and levels of management while managing competing priorities
• Experience in global organizations
