Enterprise & Operational Risk Manager

Reporting to Varo Bank’s Head of Enterprise & Operational Risk (ERM/ORM), the Enterprise & Operational Risk Manager will be responsible for Second Line Of Defense’s (LOD) governance, execution and oversight of risk and control management, monitoring and reporting over the bank's critical business processes, in partnership with the first line business functions. This requires continuous review and assessment of critical business processes, risk exposures, and the enhancement of the control environment through adequate process design, measurement systems, and the ability to remediate and manage risks. The ERM/ORM Manager will also manage the Second LOD’s Business Process Sprint & Risk and Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA) Program and in doing so, enable the first LOD business partner's ability to manage risks, enable agility, and deliver key business outcomes.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead management and execution of the Second LOD’s Business Process Sprint & RCSA Program
  • Provide continuous development and enhancement of the approach/framework for second-line review, assessment, and oversight of risk and controls in our business processes
  • Drive the execution and maturation of the program with an approach that is anchored on solid process design, actionable measurement systems, and a culture that focuses on utilizing data to drive continuous improvement 
  • Lead the execution of scheduled business process sprints, RCSA, and controls assessments in a comprehensive and timely manner consistent with program methodology and standards 
  • Manage governance activities related to Sprints, Risk and Controls Self Assessments, Key Risk Indicator Reporting, and other Internal Risk Assessment activities
  • Identify and communicate process and or control deficiencies and engage with process and control owners to ensure deficiencies are resolved in a timely manner
  • Review extensive datasets related to KRI’s, critical process and control effectiveness, make recommendations for remediation and track remediation activities to completion
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders within the enterprise to coordinate, manage and maintain risk issues, risk events, and remediation management governance activities

You’ll bring the following required skills and experiences:

  • 5-8 years experience working in a similar enterprise or operational risk function
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry, such as a banking, financial services, and or technology organization
  • Prior experience in an operator and first-line business management role, preferred
  • Experience effectively interacting with regulators, and internal Risk and Audit functions
  • Technical expertise and knowledge of COSO and ISO ERM/ORM governance and assessment methodologies frameworks, and Basel II Framework guideline and application to internal controls over critical business processes and or financial reporting processes
  • Experience managing GRC Tools and producing regular reporting to support risk governance committees
  • Expert level experience with Visio and other process mapping tools
  • Experience assisting with a continually evolving risk-based monitoring program with a focus on automation and scalability
  • Prior experience working within a diverse environment with a wide range of cross-functional stakeholders
