Gauntlet continuously publishes cutting-edge research, making us the most cited in peer reviewed articles in the DeFi industry. We’re a Series B company with 40 employees operating remote-first but primarily in New York City. 

We’re seeking someone to own all things legal and compliance for our business. As General Counsel at Gauntlet, you will work closely with all areas of the business including Business Development/Sales, Operations, Product and Engineering to ensure that we are compliant, yet always challenging the status quo. Crypto is on the regulatory frontier and we’re looking to dedicate full time, in house resources to ensure we navigate this frontier effectively.

Responsibilities

• Set direction and strategy for the company on all legal matters
• Lead and manage US and international legal compliance efforts across all teams from both a functional and procedural perspective
• Provide support on a wide variety of customized customer contracts, strategic partnerships, complicated business deals and third-party supplier contracts
• Oversee from a legal perspective the issuance of any digital assets by Gauntlet and any fundraising by the company
• Manage external counsel that will work with in-house legal when needed
• Manage changes to the company cap table and structure corporate entities
• Provide practical analyses on legal issues and risks Gauntlet is facing that enable teams to optimize tradeoffs between business upside and legal risk 
• Provide legal support to HR team and ensure process compliance with applicable U.S. and international laws and regulations, including Employment Law

Qualifications

• Active license in the U.S
• JD or equivalent with 7+ years of regulatory and corporate legal experience 
• Demonstrated ability to work outside your “legal wheelhouse” and provide guidance outside of your previous core focus
• Experience in an environment with low regulatory clarity or quickly evolving regulation
• Interest in Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

• Clearly communicate to people unfamiliar with the legal concepts 
• Identify risks and provide practical solutions in a risk tolerant manner
• Take a consultative and collaborative approach in solving problems
