Head of Engineering
Our Mission 🚀
Stacker is on a mission to let anyone create software, by building a platform to let you instantly create apps from the data you already have. We were founded in 2017, and are backed by Y Combinator and Initialized Capital, two of the most successful start-up programs in the world that have produced companies including Airbnb, Stripe, and Reddit. 🤩 Last August we raised $20 million at Series A through Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).
The role
We're seeking an experienced Head of Engineering to take our business and engineering community to new heights.
You’ll partner with Sam, our Co-founder & CTO, to collaborate on shaping our B2B no-code app builder that brings the power of software to anyone and everyone. This means we can tackle endless use cases in multiple industries across a global market.
Our engineering team is currently 14 with an expectation for you to help us double in the next 6-12 months.
Your Responsibilities 🖥
In simple terms, here’s a snapshot of three core areas you’ll oversee for engineering; People, Process, and Technology.
People:
- We’re committed to an A-player culture with high talent density. We’re already seeing the value of this mindset and approach, and we know it’s a big ask. It’s something that differentiates our role opportunity, business & product from others
- Responsive to developer experience and personal development, leading with empathy and inspiring teams to be highly engaged with Stacker
- Driving tech teams forward to new levels through both people leadership and technical thought leadership
Process:
- Assessing our maturity and adaptability and making improvements to remove bureaucracy that will elevate customer and developer experience
- Powering up our technical capability across our architecture and removing bottlenecks
Technology:
- Setting and aligning strategic programme goals to achieve scalable architecture across our portfolio, steering priorities towards the right and needed activities
- Finger on the pulse with modern technologies and ensuring we have the needed tools in place to get the best job done
Requirements
We’re seeking an experienced engineering leader who can pre-empt and navigate us through startup/scaleup growing pains.
- Passion for people: Our people are our highest priority. You know what motivates your engineering teams and you’re able to talk us through how you’ve levelled up your people, delivered through others, and implemented critical talent attraction & retention strategies for star players
- Our software is our product: You’re familiar with taking teams forward and scaling in a Startup/scaleup SaaS environment, this will give you extra credibility points in relation to building SaaS products rather than services
- Technical leadership: We’re not expecting you to be hands-on, we are anticipating you to be able to understand modern technologies & architecture to effectively command and set the direction across our engineering community
- Technical project/programme execution: Proven experience in re-evangelising tech and architectural priorities, leading with people over process, and breaking down the bureaucracy to technical craftmanship
- Being radically open: Able to partner with CTO, and strive to give and receive feedback, ideas, perspectives, and suggestions. We endorse healthy debate & discussion to help us double down on the things that matter
Our tech stack for awareness:
Our engineering teams are Full stack capable and split into teams that play to their preference on the stack where possible.
Frontend: React/JavaScript/TypeScript | Backend: Python/Django/Kubernetes/Docker/PostgreSQL/GCP
