It's On Us Focus Group Specialist

Prevention at Pitt is looking for a detail-oriented qualitative researcher to design, facilitate, and analyze focus groups about engaging men in sexual violence prevention work. This person will be responsible for guiding productive discussions, identifying meaningful themes and patterns in participant feedback, and translating findings into clear, actionable insights.

The candidate should have strong interviewing and facilitation skills, experience with qualitative methods, and the ability to systematically interpret large amounts of narrative data.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop focus group discussion guides in collaboration with Prevention at Pitt staff
• Moderate focus groups and ensure discussions remain productive, inclusive, and aligned with research objectives.
• Record, organize, and prepare qualitative research data for analysis.
• Identify recurring themes, differences in perspectives, notable quotes, and emerging insights.
• Conduct thematic analysis and synthesize findings across participants and groups.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD degree in public health, public policy, education, social work, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting focus groups and/or qualitative interviews.
• Experience with qualitative coding and thematic analysis.
• Excellent listening, facilitation, writing, and analytical skills.
• Ability to recognize patterns while remaining attentive to nuance and divergent perspectives.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff.
