Lead Senior Buyer

Description

Taiga Motors is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Lead Senior Buyer to support procurement excellence while remaining hands-on in the day-to-day sourcing and purchasing of components and materials for our electric off-road vehicles.

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Lead Senior Buyer will drive Taiga’s procurement activities with a focus on cost, quality, delivery, and supply reliability. This role combines project leadership with direct responsibility for a portfolio of suppliers and components, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both managing projects and being actively involved in the procurement process.

As Taiga continues to grow, the role will evolve toward greater strategic leadership; however, the immediate priority is to remain closely involved in sourcing, supplier management, negotiations, purchasing, and resolving supply challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of suppliers and components directly, including sourcing, purchasing, negotiations, and ongoing supplier management.
  • Develop and implement best-cost sourcing strategies for powersports components, balancing cost, quality, lead time, and supply reliability.
  • Negotiate commercial terms with suppliers, including pricing, payment terms, lead times, and delivery commitments.
  • Monitor supplier performance and proactively address issues related to cost, quality, delivery, capacity, and supply continuity.
  • Provide procurement dashboards and reporting to management, highlighting key risks, opportunities, and actions required.
  • Maintain strong market knowledge of suppliers and supply chain providers within the powersports and manufacturing sectors to identify sourcing opportunities and mitigate supply risks.
  • Manage the sourcing of custom-designed components based on engineering specifications and build-to-print requirements.
  • Partner closely with Engineering to identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, manufacturability, and supplier capability.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to ensure sourced components meet product requirements and production timelines.
  • Align procurement priorities and activities with Taiga’s overall operational and business objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement of procurement processes, tools, and systems.

Main Deliverables (Next 3-6 months)

  • Organize and prioritize the procurement team and supplier portfolio to secure sourcing agreements and components required to support tight production schedules.
  • Strengthen relationships with key existing suppliers, improving communication, accountability, and long-term collaboration.
  • Identify and address immediate supplier, cost, and availability risks impacting production.
  • Work closely with Engineering to identify opportunities to optimize component designs for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Establish clear procurement reporting and visibility into supplier performance, sourcing priorities, and supply risks.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of procurement experience, preferably within a manufacturing, automotive, powersports, or related industry.
  • 2+ years of experience leading or managing a team.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating with suppliers and holding them accountable to cost, quality, and delivery commitments.
  • Strong hands-on purchasing and supplier management experience.
  • Technical aptitude and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, as you will need to work with with international suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, manage competing priorities, and respond quickly to changing business needs.
  • Ability to work onsite at Taiga’s facility in LaSalle, Quebec.
