About the Legal Employment Counsel role...
The Employment Counsel position will be based in Barcelona, Spain and report to the Senior Legal Counsel (based in Australia), providing legal advice on all employee related matters, including employment laws, employment contracts, employee claims, works councils and union representations. Working closely with the People and Culture team and leaders across all functions, the role will support the business in Spain, with the possibility of supporting other regions in EMEA and across the regions in which SiteMinder operates.

What you’ll do…

  • Provide expert counsel on a range of employment law issues, including grievances, dismissals, employment contracts, benefits etc.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the People and Culture team, local management and business leaders, guiding decision making on employee relations, risk management and complex workplace issues. This includes advising on, and managing, SiteMinder’s obligations regarding works councils, employee representatives and union representation, including consultation, negotiation and collective bargaining processes.

  • Manage, alongside the People & Culture team, employment litigation and disputes, providing regulatory and compliance advice in the context of conduct, remuneration matters, and regulatory inquiries.

  • Monitor and communicate regional developments in employment laws and regulations, proactively adjusting policies and practises and providing clear, actionable advice to the business.

  • Support cross border employment law projects, including policy harmonisation, workforce changes and compliance initiatives.

  • Advise on legal risk in a clear, practical and commercially balanced way.


What you’ll have…

  • Law degree with admission to practice in at least Spain.

  • Extensive experience as a qualified employment lawyer in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department of a multinational organization.

  • Proven success in advising on complex Spanish employment law is essential, including obligations regarding works councils, employee representatives and union representation, with hands-on experience of consultation and negotiation processes.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages.

  • The ability to think analytically and pragmatically to provide innovative, proactive advice

  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to interact effectively and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the business, along with external advisors.

  • Comfortable hitting the ground running in fast paced scale-up environments.

  • You are a team player with a humble attitude and a hunger to make an impact in a role where the sky’s the limit.

  • Experience working with AI technologies to increase efficiency.

  • Comfortable with working across time zones.

    Nice to have…

  • Knowledge of employment law in other jurisdictions, particularly the other regions in EMEA.

  • Experience working in high growth technology companies.

  • Fluency in other European languages.
