Machine Learning Engineer
TLDR
Develop ML/AI applications on TerraFarms data to optimize farm performance, integrating computer vision with automation and environmental controls.
Role – As a Machine Learning Engineer at Local Roots, you will be responsible for developing the machine learning and artificial intelligence applications to the enormous data created from our TerraFarms in order to optimize the performance of the farms. You’ll work with our software and electrical teams as well as working intimately on our computer vision projects in order to improve the automation, customization, and yield of our farms. You will be developing technology to monitor our grow cycle so that environmental controls are modified automatically. You will be responsible for continually improving how the automation works
Responsibilities – You should be confident making significant contributions in the following categories:
- Organizing and analyzing the physical data and business data from our TerraFarms in order to optimize their performance on things like yield, electrical usage, antioxidant content, bitterness, flavor, color, rigidity, shelf life, etc.
- Design and implement new sensors or collection methods to improve upon our data collection and farm performance
- Working with our proprietary software to help to continually develop algorithms to better organize data from our grow cycles
- Identifying data signals that occur in our TerraFarms to better collect and eventually automate the work
Requirements – Your background should include the following:
- 5+ years software development experience with highly scalable systems involving machine learning and big data.
- Expertise with data analysis languages such as Python, Scala, or R.
- Experience with a Cloud Computing Platform (such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Experience with modern source control (Git, Hg, SVN).
- Applicants should have a degree (BS+) in a Computer Science or related discipline.
Bonus Skills – Exceptional Candidates will have:
- Computer vision expertise
- Experience with automation and/or quality control
- Expertise in food, agriculture, consumer packaged goods, consumer insights, consumer research, or similar
