Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead development of Calix Operations Cloud, powering large-scale data-driven systems. The role involves building and scaling real-time data pipelines, managing Java-based distributed systems, and driving high availability and performance across platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership
Lead and manage a team of software engineers across operations cloud.
Drive design, development and delivery of high-scale, low-latency data pipeline solutions
Own end-to-end delivery including architecture, development, testing, and production stability
Mentor engineers and enforce engineering best practices, code quality, and system reliability
Technical Ownership
Architect and build real-time streaming pipelines using Kafka and related ecosystem (Streams, Connect, etc.)
Lead development of Java-based microservices and distributed systems
Design scalable systems to handle high-throughput telemetry and alarm/event data
Ensure fault-tolerant, resilient, and observable systems for mission-critical applications
Required Qualifications:
12-15+ years of experience in software engineering, with 3–5 years in engineering management
Strong experience in building data pipelines using Apache Kafka or similar streaming platforms
Proven track record of managing Java-based backend systems
Experience building and scaling distributed systems in production environments
Hands-on expertise in microservices architecture, REST/gRPC APIs
Strong understanding of data processing patterns (real-time, batch, event-driven)
