Role – As a Mechanical Engineer at Local Roots, you’ll be designing and building the products that will enable us to provide flavorful, affordable food to everyone. You will design hardware such as electrical interfaces, LED enclosures, a mobile computer vision module, and automation solutions. We’re looking for an exceptional and creative engineer to usher in the next era of farming.
Responsibilities – You should be confident making significant contributions in the following categories:
- CAD (Solidworks), BOM management, sourcing, and procuring
- Designing and building hardware
- Integrating designs into indoor farms
- Managing vendors, manufacturing partners, and certifying bodies
Requirements – Your background should include the following:
- Extensive experience in design, manufacturing, and automation
- Fast prototyping skills, including hands-on machine tools experience
- Experience taking products through UL 1598 and 8750 and IP 67
- Confidence managing engineering projects from start to finish with little guidance
- Enthusiasm to problem solve, innovate, hack, and build
- Excitement in the face of uncertainty
Bonus Skills – Bonus points if any of these also describe you:
- MS or PhD in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or robotics
- 3+ years in manufacturing and automation
- Expertise in plant physiology
- Experience with user interfaces, networking, agriculture, and food processing
