People Development Partner

TLDR

Build learning, feedback and progression systems while embedding capable AI use into expectations, performance assessment and onboarding.

IN A NUTSHELL…

We’re looking for a People Development Partner to help Bellroy grow our people, not just our headcount. You’ll be a part of our People & Culture team, report to our Chief People Officer, and build the systems, rituals and programs that make learning, feedback and progression truly embedded in how we work.

The lever you'll pull hardest is development, we believe that development at Bellroy is broader than training. Training teaches someone to run a new procedure, while development grows the person underneath it, and we care a lot about the second. We want someone with a real point of view on how people grow - the models, the psychology and the evidence - and can turn that into practice.

AI is changing what good looks like in a lot of our roles and you'll help managers work out what capable AI use means in their team's work, build it into how we set expectations and assess performance, and make sure new starters meet it properly in onboarding.

We offer a seriously considered environment, products designed with intention, a B Corp™ commitment to business as a force for good, and a crew who genuinely love learning and improving. Decision making sits close to the work, we're honest about what's working and what's not, and we care about doing things properly rather than ticking boxes.

YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU…

  • Bring around 5+ years partnering with leaders in a scaling business. HR business partnering, people or organisational development, or somewhere less obvious like Big 4, strategy consulting or professional services
  • Connect people decisions to commercial outcomes, and can show your reasoning when a manager asks for more information on a recommendation
  • Coached managers through performance conversations they were putting off, and left them better at it
  • Have a considered point of view on how people develop, drawing on models of how humans learn, grow and behave at work
  • Work with engagement and performance data, and turn numbers into actions that leaders can act on
  • Have strong coordination and organisation skills. You keep a lot of moving parts on track, hit the dates you commit to, and people trust that what you've picked up will get done
  • Have hands on experience with AI, you've experimented in your own work and you can write guidance people follow
  • Have a warm, candid style, you can have difficult conversations without drama, and you're as happy listening as advising.

If you don't tick every box but you're excited about building capability in a business that's scaling fast, we'd still like to hear from you.

IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, YOU MIGHT HAVE…

  • Untangled a performance situation where a manager and their report had completely different understandings of what was expected, and got the role expectations written down and agreed to
  • Coached a manager through a difficult conversation they were dreading
  • Mapped out a development plan with a manager for a high performer on their team
  • Talked a crew member who wants to move into management through what to start building now
  • Rebuilt a session on difficult performance conversations that wasn't good enough, and ran it again for managers
  • Prototyped an AI agent to help a manager prep for performance reviews, with guardrails so their own judgement stays in the lead
  • Sat with our CPO on the latest experience survey results, drafted an action outline for the senior team, then walked a few managers through what it meant for their own team.
