Product Manager
Like a lot of technology companies, we are mostly working remotely at Starling and we think we will be for a while to come. We’re open to applications from across the UK but our preference is that you’re located within a commutable distance to our London or Southampton office, so that when we’re able to see each other and collaborate in person again, we’re ready to go!
Starling isn’t your average bank. We’re on a mission to give everyone a fairer, easier and more human alternative to the banks of the past.
Everyone at Starling gets the chance to own interesting things from day one, and we’re told one of the best things about working here is the ability to achieve a lot in a short space of time.
Starling product managers work closely with our engineers as a team that loves building things and working with the rest of the business to bring brilliant things to life. We’re open-minded when it comes to hiring, caring more about skills and attitude than specific experience or qualifications. If you care about finding elegant solutions to difficult problems, we’d love to hear from you.
We think being good at product requires clear communication, a sense of focus, and to always challenge the conventional ways of doing things. As such we’d love to see from your CV (or indeed something else) specifically what you’ve done and what you’ve made. We want to know what you’re proud of, what you created and how you made it happen.
Requirements
What you’ll bring:
We have a culture that is focused on making things for our customers at high speed, and so we are looking for any potential Product Managers to have the following:
- Lots of experience defining and building great products and features for customers whilst answering all of the difficult questions that came up.
- Be able to balance solving complex problems with fast tactical changes. You will need to be good at knowing where our time can be spent most effectively, and making high quality decisions quickly, with data where appropriate.
- Being comfortable operating outside of your comfort zone and dealing with ambiguity.
- Strong written skills with an ability to make the complex comprehensible.
- Build relationships across the business and reach compromises to deliver the best outcomes possible.
What product managers at Starling do:
- Advocate for our customers while helping our engineering teams build new products and features. From key company initiatives to quick wins, you’ll be conducting user research, analysing data and thinking about requirements.
- Help optimise the performance of our product against our customer and business metrics. You’ll be identifying opportunities to improve the experience, define the solution, deliver it to our customers, and measure the effect after launch.
- End-to-end ownership, liaising with design, marketing, legal and compliance to get our products to market.
