Project Ramp- Summer Internship

RESPONSIBILITIES

Valo Health is seeking summer interns in Data Science / Computational Biology to wrangle complex datasets and apply machine learning approaches to accelerate the creation of life-saving treatments. The interns will be embedded in project teams and/or work on a self-contained project.

Example projects include:

• Implementing state of the art machine learning methods in computational biology
• Computational modelling of disease mechanisms, drug effects, and clinical impact

The intern will participate fully in the Computational Biology team’s day-to-day activities, including daily stand-ups, weekly group & project meetings, Slack channels, and Valo town-hall meetings. Additionally, the intern candidate will be expected to present and communicate their work regularly to various stakeholders in the company. In addition to working with individual members of the Data Science and Discovery teams around their project, the intern will also have the opportunity, according to his/her interests, to meet people across the company including in Clinical Real-World Evidence, Business Development & Innovation, Corporate Strategy & Development.

DESIRED MAJORS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS + SKILLS

Necessary skills for the internship include

• Rising Junior or Senior pursuing degrees related to computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, etc.
• Coursework with Python and/or R and their associated scientific libraries
• Upper-level coursework in biology, genetics, molecular biology, etc
• Candidate must be self-driven and able to work independently with as much support from their mentors as needed to be successful

REMOTE-WORK

Work can be performed remotely. Candidates will be issued a Valo computer to perform their job duties. 

CANDIDATE PREFERENCES

We are looking for candidates hoping to pursue a career in computational biology, data science, or computer science. Candidates with biology or chemistry backgrounds/education combined with programming experience/education is a plus.
