Robotics Engineer

$160,000 – $180,000 per year

TLDR

Design and bring robotic systems into production, integrating vision, PLCs, and factory controls across high-mix manufacturing applications.

At Layup Parts, we're developing the technology that will build the future.   We're a manufacturing technology company replacing months of lead time with days, using proprietary software, automation, and advanced manufacturing systems built for speed. Our customers are inventing what's next, in aerospace, defense, robotics, and beyond. To keep up with them, manufacturing has to change. That's what we're building.  We're looking for a Robotics Engineer to lead the implementation and R&D of robotics systems across our production floor. You'll take pick-and-place systems from design through bring-up into production, support lamination automation applications, and help push automated trimming work forward alongside our automation team. This role owns the controls side of robotics, how a system actually moves, sees, and reacts, working in close partnership with mechanical engineers who own the nuts and bolts of the assembly itself.  What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and bring into production new robotic systems supporting a range of manufacturing processes
  • Support lamination automations and related material handling applications
  • Collaborate on automated trimming systems currently in development
  • Own the controls and robotics logic side of new automation projects, working closely with mechanical engineers who handle assembly design and parts integration
  • Work across both hardware/actuator-focused implementations and vision-based systems (camera systems, object detection, and ML applications for robotics)
  • Bring industrial robotics best practices to custom, high-mix manufacturing applications
  • Integrate robotic systems with PLCs and broader factory control systems
  • What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience with robotic arms (e.g., Fanuc); direct experience with industrial systems required
  • Mechanical background (can come from a software angle, but must have mechanical grounding)
  • Experience with industrial/factory systems
  • Comfortable owning both the design and hands-on bring-up of robotics systems
  • Bonus Points
  • Experience with PLC systems (Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen-Bradley)
  • Software experience in C++ or Rust (Rust a plus)
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Equal Opportunity
