We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Robotics Engineer with a strong background in software, firmware development, and hands-on prototyping capabilities. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the testing and development of high altitude robotic paragliders for use in satellite Earth return technology. This role requires a deep understanding of aerodynamics, environmental challenges, and the ability to work with both hard and soft materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and test high altitude robotic paragliders with a focus on both software and hardware aspects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement algorithms and ensure functionality and operation using test setups and instrumentation
  • Utilize CNC machines and other manufacturing methods to create prototypes and refine designs
  • Understand and work with soft goods, including sewing and manipulation of fabric materials
  • Perform tests and analyze data to optimize paraglider performance in challenging environmental conditions. 
  • Ensure the reliability and robustness of the paragliders under various operating conditions
  • Develop and maintain firmware for embedded systems in the paragliders, ensuring seamless integration of sensors, actuators, and control algorithms
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to hardware, software, and system integration, applying root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, as well as company quality assurance procedures
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering a collaborative, innovative work environment
  • Continuously research and stay up-to-date with advancements in robotics, paragliding technology, and related industry trends, identifying opportunities for further innovation
  • Clearly document design processes, test results, and project progress, effectively communicating complex technical concepts to team members, stakeholders, and clients

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or Ph.d. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in software and firmware development, preferably in C/C++, Python, or other relevant languages.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machines, 3D printers, molding and other manufacturing tools and methods
  • Knowledge of soft goods fabrication and manipulation, including sewing techniques
  • Deep understanding of aerodynamics, wind behavior, and operating in challenging environmental conditions
  • Proven track record of designing, building, and testing complex robotic systems, with a focus on aerial applications
  • Strong familiarity with embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and advanced control algorithms, including machine learning and optimization techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with experience in technical leadership and mentoring roles
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively and adapting to changing project requirements
