Senior Backend Engineer - Campaign Engine (all genders)

The Campaign Engine is our loyalty framework hub. Its mission is to enable a completely new self-service campaign management ecosystem for Retail Media Partners, providing them with direct access to ABOUT YOU’s unique proprietary loyalty mechanics (Missions & Coupons) to drive customer acquisition and incremental engagement.

This is a technical greenfield opportunity where your architectural decisions and system designs will directly shape the product from day one and scale our technical infrastructure to support our target of multiplying our Retail Media revenue. 

• Architect Greenfield Backend Services: Design, develop, and deliver scalable, high-performance core backend systems and RESTful APIs from scratch for the Campaign Engine product layer
• Establish Engineering Standards: Define clean software architectural blueprints, coding standards, repository layouts, and CI/CD pipelines, initially leveraging a modern PHP 8.2+ and Laravel-based ecosystem
• Drive Testing and Code Health: Champion excellent engineering practices within the team via automated test frameworks, strict test coverage and systematic code reviews
• Cross-Functional Technical Stewardship: Partner closely with the Team Lead Product, Frontend Engineers, and central infrastructure teams to evaluate architectural trade-offs and translate commercial objectives into robust code
• Deploy AI-Augmented Engineering Workflows: Architect, configure, and optimize modern, AI-augmented development setups utilizing tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Gemini.

• 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
• Modern PHP Ecosystem: Advanced proficiency in modern PHP (8.2+) and modern web frameworks such as Laravel with deep knowledge of object-oriented design patterns
• API Design & Integration Routing: Extensive experience building enterprise-grade, secure RESTful APIs, managing intricate OAuth lifecycles, and implementing robust rate-limiting and defensive validation rules
• Relational Database Architecture: Strong relational database proficiency, including schema engineering, indexing strategies, transaction handling, and query performance tuning
• Observability & Telemetry Integration: Deep practice instrumenting application telemetry, writing actionable distributed logs, and building metrics monitoring profiles inside platforms like Datadog
• AI-Augmented Development: Practical skill integrating modern AI tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Gemini) directly into the software development lifecycle to automate and accelerate code iteration loops
• High Autonomy & Proactive Ownership: Highly self-directed engineer who thrives on setting technical directions, establishing code patterns, and building workflows from a clean slate
• Pragmatic & Delivery-Oriented: A practical problem solver who values shipping clean, predictable, and functional increments over premature optimization or hyper-abstract engineering
• Clear Technical Communicator: Capable of translating complex architectural tradeoffs, system limits, and technical complexities into clean business terms for non-technical stakeholders

• AdTech or Loyalty Domain Familiarity: Prior exposure building self-service campaign dashboards, ad-tech delivery stacks, budgeting engines, or reward/coupon systems.
