Job Description: Senior Documentation Engineer/Technical Writer
About the team and your role:
Robinhood’s Tech Programs organization works to enable Robinhood’s growth and Engineering program success. We are hiring a Documentation Engineer/Technical Writer to build the framework and structure for Technical Writing and Documentation at Robinhood! You will build a standard of excellence for how we write, store, and search for information. We believe that strong writing and access to intuitively organized documentation will amplify our work, and increase the velocity with which we can make decisions and grow. This role will make a major impact across all of our Engineering functions including but not limited to our product verticals, data, software platform and developer infrastructure!
What you’ll do day-to-day:
- Build the strategy, structure and framework that supports and organizes technical user documentation at Robinhood
- Create a charter and strategy for technical writing and engineering documentation programs
- Implement organizational change and ensure adoption of documentation structure implemented
- Drive initiatives to examine existing documentation, create information architecture, and then organize available documentation working with engineers and multi-functional partners
- Collaborate with the Tech Learning team to share documentation that can be used for onboarding and training programs in order to help our engineers learn and grow
- Partner closely with a set of multi-functional teams across engineering and business functions
- Create best practices and scalable solutions to help improve writing quality across the engineering org
- Identify and drive opportunities to improve efficiency
- Assess documentation success through metrics and qualitative analysis
About you:
- 6+ years of experience managing documentation strategy
- Experience building the framework/structure for documentation within an organization
- Experience creating and implementing automated documentation tools
- Experience with large information architecture projects
- Experience independently defining and driving technical documentation projects.
- Experience producing and organizing content with a logical flow.
- You’ve successfully defined a vision and mission and planned in quarters and halves to achieve your goals
- Direct experience with docs-as-code approaches to technical content
- Familiarity with API’s, Web Standards, and other internet technologies
Bonus points:
- Familiarity with Python, Django/Go, Postgres, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes a plus
- Knowledge with markup and formatting, including HTML and CSS
- Experience in the finance, FinTech, or banking sector
