Senior Software Engineer (Data Platform)
TLDR
Build scalable, governed data platform capabilities powering analytics, AI and business-critical products with AWS, Kafka, Spark and Iceberg.
The job at a glance
Join our team and you’ll be a key technical contributor within our Data Platform team, designing, building and maintaining scalable, reliable and well-governed data platform capabilities that power analytics, AI and business-critical products.
Working in the Data Platform department, you will collaborate closely with Staff and Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers and Product Managers. You will take ownership of significant platform components, drive technical quality within your squad and help grow the engineering capability of those around you.
This is a hands-on role. You will spend most of your time writing code, designing systems, reviewing peers’ work and solving complex engineering challenges.
This is so important to us. By joining our team, you will be playing a vital role as together we reimagine the labour market to make it work for everybody.
Your responsibilities
- Design, build and own key Data Platform components, making sound architectural decisions and delivering scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Write clean, well-tested and observable code while driving engineering standards, best practices and reusable patterns across the team.
- Ensure high levels of quality, reliability and performance through code reviews, testing, monitoring and proactive management of technical debt.
- Own technical delivery end-to-end, collaborating with cross-functional teams, contributing to planning and risk management, and supporting less experienced engineers through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Leverage and promote AI-assisted development tools and engineering automation practices to improve productivity, code quality and team efficiency.
Your skills and qualifications
- Proven experience as a Senior Engineer (or equivalent) with a strong track record in data platform or platform engineering and delivering complex solutions end-to-end.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including Product, Analytics and Infrastructure, while driving engineering quality, reliability and delivery excellence.
- Hands-on experience with cloud and infrastructure technologies, particularly AWS and Terraform.
- Strong expertise in modern data platforms and processing technologies, including Kafka/Amazon MSK, Apache Airflow, AWS Glue, Apache Spark, Data Lakes, Lakehouse architectures and Apache Iceberg.
- Knowledge of data quality, governance, cataloguing, observability (e.g. Datadog), batch and streaming processing, with DBT considered a plus.
