The global network will deliver fiber-quality throughput anywhere on Earth. We are growing quickly and are currently in need of a System Engineering Specialist to join our System Solutions team. Reporting to the Director, Systems Solutions, the System Engineering Specialist will contribute to the evaluation and definition of next-generation Lightspeed system capabilities. Working closely with internal engineering teams and external partners, the successful candidate will support system architecture activities, assess new technologies and services, coordinate technical studies, and help define future solutions that enhance performance, interoperability, and operational flexibility across the Lightspeed ecosystem. Main Responsibilities:
  • Support the evaluation and evolution of system architecture concepts for future Lightspeed capabilities, services, and payload enhancements.
  • Participate in system-level trade studies evaluating performance, operational impacts, implementation complexity, interoperability, and overall business value.
  • Work with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and partners to collect requirements, evaluate technical solutions, and support architectural decision-making.
  • Assist in the definition of Concepts of Operations (ConOps) associated with new architecture, services, and operational configurations.
  • Contribute to system performance evaluations, requirements development, and validation activities.
  • Develop technical documentation, reports, requirements, and architecture descriptions. 
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality technical presentations supporting solution development and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Education and Experience Required:
  • B.Sc. in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 9 years of relevant experience in satellite communications, telecommunications, wireless networks, aerospace systems, or other large-scale communication systems.
  • Experience supporting system design, requirements management, system integration, or technology evaluation activities.
  • Understanding of satellite communication systems, wireless communication systems, or IP-based network architectures.
  • Experience performing technical analyses and evaluating system-level trade-offs.
  • Familiarity with system engineering methodologies and requirements development.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, or external partners.
  • Addiitonal skills required:
  • Understanding of satellite communication architectures and networking concepts. 
  • Familiarity with LEO, MEO, or GEO satellite systems and associated operational considerations.
  • Knowledge of wireless communications, network performance metrics, or communication system architectures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Highly collaborative team player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers, customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical activities and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • An aptitude for and interest in complex technology.
  • Programming skills in Matlab or Python is an asset.
  • Fluent in English, written and oral.
  • Some travel may be required.
