Systems Engineer for Space Sustainability

Telespazio Belgium has an on‑site service at ESTEC in the Netherlands, and we are looking for a highly skilled Systems Engineer for Space Sustainability to work there.

Candidates must be eligible for a security personal clearance from an EU Member State national security administration

What is expected from you:

  • Provide systems engineering support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and studies, including the areas of concern to space Sustainability and throughout all the project phases.
  • Support project reviews and evaluation of proposals.
  • Develop and promote sustainability considerations and infuse them into projects.
  • Participate in feasibility studies conducted in the CDF, in the role of Sustainability expert.
  • Develop and improve tools and methods for injecting sustainability considerations in early assessment studies.
  • Contribute to the definition and implementation of the ESA technology strategy and support the definition of R&D work plans.
  • Ensure the promotion, coordination, follow-up and selection of technology activities.
  • Define, initiate and support R&D activities under ESA's technology programmes.
  • Monitor scientific and technological trends for sustainability engineering and maintain corresponding state-of-the-art expertise.
  • Contribute to the improvement of standardisation in sustainability engineering, via ESA internal processes and lessons learned, and by liaising with the ECSS Authority.
  • Contribute to the promotion of sustainability engineering across the Agency and its partners.
  • Contribute to the capture and dissemination of knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.

What you offer:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Knowledge and experience in Sustainability Engineering topics (Clean Space, Zero Debris, Eco-Design, Space Circular Economy, Active Debris Removal, InOrbit Servicing).
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental regulations, such as REACH and RoHS.

Where:

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
