TBM Superintendent
TLDR
Own safety, production, and crew performance across all shifts while coordinating engineering, maintenance, logistics, and underground operations.
The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
We're looking for a TBM Superintendent to lead tunneling machine operations on our project in Dubai. This is a senior field leadership role with full ownership of safety, production, and crew performance across all shifts — from the heading to the shaft to the surface. You'll direct foremen and crews, align engineering, maintenance, and logistics around a single production plan, and keep the machine mining while staying ready to adapt to the unexpected underground.
Responsibilities:
- Direct all TBM tunneling operations across shifts, including excavation, ground support, utilities, conveyor/muck handling, and underground logistics
- Own the full production system: segment/material supply, spoil removal, shaft operations, and surface support required to sustain continuous mining
- Develop and execute shift plans, production targets, and lookahead schedules in coordination with project management and engineering
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate foremen and crews; build crew capability and ensure clear shift-to-shift handoffs
- Own safety performance underground: enforce safety standards, SOPs, and engineering requirements, and lead incident prevention, investigation, and corrective actions
- Coordinate TBM advance, maintenance windows, and interventions with operators, mechanics, and electricians to maximize machine availability
- Anticipate and resolve mechanical, electrical, and ground condition issues affecting production; escalate risks early with proposed solutions
- Manage crew scheduling, staffing, and material planning; provide input on production costs, resource needs, and schedule forecasts
- Track and report production metrics, downtime, and progress to project leadership, and drive continuous improvement in advance rates
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of underground tunneling or mining experience, including significant time on TBM projects
- Prior experience as a Superintendent, Lead, or senior Foreman leading multiple crews on TBM operations
- Deep working knowledge of TBM systems, ground support, ventilation, dewatering, and underground logistics
- Proven track record of delivering production safely under demanding schedules
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills under pressure
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and supporting 24/7 rotating shift operations
- Willingness to relocate to and work in Dubai, UAE; international project experience preferred
