Technical Writer

$85,000 – $100,000 per year

TLDR

Research and write owner’s guides, service manuals, and accessory guides for e-bike hardware and software across global audiences.

About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

The Role

In this team role, you’ll be responsible for researching and writing technical documentation about ALSO’s e-bike hardware and software for global audiences. Your ability to work cross-functionally between engineering, support, testing, marketing, and product management is essential. You’ll work alongside other writers and illustrators to produce owner’s guides, service manuals, and accessory guides for internal and external audiences. Participating in product teardowns, builds, and validation testing will help you ensure consistency and clarity across all documents.

What You Will Do

  • Produce technical content to assemble, use, and service our products (hardware and software)

  • Create content that is scalable across multiple products and can be easily translated into multiple languages

  • Learn complex technical products quickly with the assistance of subject matter experts

  • Partner with technical illustrators to create renderings and video that will be integrated into technical publications

  • Perform all phases of content development, including planning and research, design, writing, editing, embedding illustrations, and publishing

  • Deliver documentation in multiple formats (print, PDF, web-based, mobile) and integrate with internal platforms or service portals

  • Manage content through revision control, translation, and file management

  • Keep documentation up to date on newly released features

  • Work with the Tech Publications team to continually improve documentation process, quality, and usability

  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure consistency and transparency across all documentation

What You Will Bring to ALSO

  • Minimum 2-4 years of technical writing experience in a complex product environment (hardware AND software)

  • Must have experience documenting hardware assembly or installation at the product level (you know and care what a torque specification is)

  • Experience developing topic-based and structured content, understand information architecture principles and content organization, and write for a global audience by default

  • Exceptional proficiency in written English for documentation that is accurate, concise, and flows logically

  • Detail oriented, systematic, and investigative writing process

  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex technical products quickly from subject matter experts and translate it into documentation relevant to the target audience

  • Proficient in XML or HTML authoring tools such as Flare or oXygen (experience specifically in Madcap Flare a plus)

  • Basic knowledge of photography and image editing software (Photoshop, GIMP, Illustrator, etc.)

  • PC proficiency in MS Office or Google Suite

  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while meeting tight deadlines

  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in an environment with competing demands

  • Self-starter with an emphasis on teamwork skills

  • Experience with CMS, LMS and/or TMS a plus

  • Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, or similar project management tools a plus

  • Experience specifically in bicycles, EVs, or consumer electronics a plus

  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards (CE, EN, ISO, UL, etc.) a plus

The salary for this position ranges from $85,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
