About the Role

We’re looking for an Android Test Automation Engineer to help ensure the quality, reliability, and stability of next-generation Android-based devices.

In this role, you’ll develop and maintain automated testing solutions that provision, configure, and validate software on physical prototype devices throughout the development lifecycle. You’ll work closely with software engineers and quality teams to strengthen test coverage, automation, release readiness, and overall product quality.

This role requires strong software-engineering skills, hands-on experience with Android test automation, and the ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues within an emerging hardware environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automated test suites for Android applications and platform components.
  • Create automation that provisions, configures, deploys, and validates software on physical Android prototype devices.
  • Maintain and operate a physical Android device lab, including device provisioning, software updates, connectivity, inventory management, and test readiness.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and quality teams to integrate automated tests into existing continuous-integration and continuous-delivery pipelines.
  • Investigate automated test failures, identify root causes, and improve test reliability and stability.
  • Analyze software changes to identify testing gaps and prioritize regression coverage for high-risk functionality.
  • Reproduce software defects and collect and analyze logs, crash reports, and telemetry data to support debugging and issue resolution.
  • Validate software fixes and support release readiness through comprehensive testing and quality verification.
  • Document test plans, automation processes, testing procedures, and quality results.
  • Provide regular status updates, communicate technical risks, and recommend improvements to testing strategies and automation.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Five or more years of software-engineering or software-development-in-test experience.
  • One or more years of experience developing automated tests for Android applications or Android-based devices.
  • Experience provisioning, configuring, and executing software on physical Android devices.
  • Strong programming experience with Kotlin, C++, or another strongly typed programming language.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test frameworks.
  • Experience debugging software issues and analyzing test failures through logs, crash reports, and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience working with continuous-integration and continuous-delivery pipelines and automated build validation.
  • Ability to work independently, manage technical priorities, and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the Android Open Source Project or customized Android platforms.
  • Experience validating software on prototype or pre-production hardware.
  • Experience with device provisioning, firmware validation, or embedded and mobile-device testing.
  • Knowledge of the Android application lifecycle, system architecture, and debugging tools.
  • Experience building or maintaining automated-testing infrastructure for physical device labs.
  • Familiarity with release-validation processes and regression-testing strategies.
  • Experience analyzing telemetry, performance metrics, and crash diagnostics to improve software quality.
  • Experience collaborating within Agile software-development environments.
  • A strong interest in automation, continuous improvement, and delivering high-quality software on emerging hardware platforms.
