The Infinity Works Academy
Challenging? Yes. Rewarding? Absolutely! Securing a place with Infinity Works’ Academy is a great first step in starting your tech career
Interested in starting your career in tech? Despite these challenging times, we’re still growing strongly and believe that supporting people from all backgrounds into a great role in technology has never been more important. Helping our clients solve challenging problems and unlock value from digital transformation means we need to encourage and support talented people to join us. No computer science degree? Not a problem – regardless of your career path to date, if you’re passionate about tech and enthused by always learning more, then joining our Academy could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for. Our first 2021 programmes are now live, read on to find out more.
Who we are
Infinity Works is a leading software engineering and digital transformation consultancy. We help our clients solve challenging technical and business problems in a wide variety of domains using a diverse set of technology stacks. As a fast-growing company started by 4 friends in 2014 to now over 450 people in 2020, we’re located across our four offices in Leeds, London, Manchester and Edinburgh. We work with many different organisations – ranging from retailers, telecomms, banks, the NHS and other public sector organisations, right through to start-ups and smaller companies with very bespoke needs.
With no client or challenge being the same and in a fast-moving and often uncertain world it’s important for some things to remain constant however. For Infinity Works these constants are our desire to be the best for our clients, doing the right thing and helping them achieve their goals, and also to be the best for our people. This means providing everyone with learning, challenges and support in equal measure whilst also encouraging them to be themselves.
Our Academy
The Infinity Works Academy has grown from a cohort of two in 2016 to now being a major part of our growth and recruitment strategy. Each year we hire an increasing number of new Associate Consultants (we’re targeting 40 in 2020 – 2021) at the very start of their tech career and train them to develop their skills as both full-stack software engineers and consultants.
The Academy aims to provide opportunities for people from a diverse range of backgrounds, not just graduates but also career changers or those who’ve taken a wide range of paths in their life so far. Our aim is to unlock their potential as technologists, software engineers and consultants, and support the ongoing success and growth of Infinity Works at the same time.
Tell me more – what’s in the detail?
The Infinity Works Academy is the intro to your career as a full-stack software engineer and consultant. If you’re offered a place, you’re a fully-paid employee from day one. Our Academy begins as a 12 week training programme where you’re supported by our experienced Academy team who will teach you both the tech skills and consultancy skills needed to start you on the path to being an Infinity Works consultant.
Tech-wise we like to keep up to date so we aim to tweak and adapt every programme but it will always be full-stack, from (but not limited to) cloud, infrastructure and data, through serverless, APIs and high scale systems to front-end and mobile. Our latest programme for example focused on Javascript, React, AWS, Serverless and DynamoDB, with plenty of emphasis on professional practices such as testing, CI/CD and agile delivery too.
You can also check out our engineering blog at https://engineering.infinityworks.com for more details about what Infinity Works is involved in.
Your journey at Infinity Works – on-going career support
The Academy is more than the first 12 weeks however – we support you to continue your learning with a day per month ‘off project’ to meet up with your cohort, receive further training and work to build on your skills and knowledge. Plus you’re also assigned a career mentor too, whose role is to support and encourage you to progress and make the most of the opportunities at Infinity Works.
Ultimately our aim is to help you progress to Consultant within a 12 to 24 month timeframe and from there, there’s many paths you can choose. We’re proud to say that almost all of our Academy hires to date have chosen to progress further at Infinity Works and enjoy the challenge of building their specialist skills and knowledge while helping grow Infinity Works in the process. Here’s a few examples of some of those who’ve joined us via the Academy in the past:
