Evaluate employer group risk and determine appropriate pricing for level-funded plans

Collaborate with Sales to craft competitive proposals and win business without compromising profitability

Analyze risk factors and make informed, data-driven decisions—balancing risk tolerance with growth goals

Help design and refine underwriting guidelines, processes, and tools as we scale

Partner cross-functionally with Product, Actuarial, and Customer Success to continuously improve the end-to-end experience

Monitor underwriting outcomes and market dynamics to inform ongoing pricing and risk strategies

3+ years of underwriting experience, ideally with a focus on small groups and/or level-funded products
-
Strong understanding of health insurance pricing, risk assessment, and underwriting guidelines
-
Comfortable taking calculated risks to support business goals, especially in a fast-evolving startup environment

Excellent communicator with the ability to explain underwriting decisions to non-technical stakeholders

Highly collaborative and proactive—able to build strong working relationships across Sales, Actuarial, and beyond
-
Thrives in ambiguity and brings a continuous improvement mindset to their work
-
Experience working at an insurtech, carrier, or TPA focused on the small group market

Familiarity with underwriting automation tools or systems

Strong data analysis skills (Excel, etc.)
