Vacation Labs
Various Internships
TLDR
Intern with multiple tracks—Frontend, Rails, Haskell, and UI/UX—delivering real production work across varying internship lengths.
Frontend engineering internship
- We're using JS/AngularV1 and Typescript/AngularV2 for our frontend stack.
- If you have 4-6 months for the internship, basic software engineering know-how, and an interest in frontend engineering is enough. (experience with Angular V1/V2, while preferred, is not necessary.
- However, If you only have 2-3 months for the internship you need to have some experience with one of these libraries. We recommend at least a 3 month internship. However, if you feel you have enough experience to start contributing almost immediately, a 2 month internship is also doable.
- We will prefer candidates who can work out of our office in Goa, for the duration of the internship.
Ruby/Rails internship
- We have about approx 250,000 lines of code in Rails in production. If Ruby/Rails interests you, this is a very good opportunity to see it in action in a large, real-life deployment.
- If you have 4-6 months for the internship, you should have basic familiarity with Ruby/Rails. However, if you have only 2-3 month for the internship, the bar for existing know-how would be higher.
- During the internship, you will be working on some feature that will be shipped to our customers, so you need to have enough time to complete your project and see it shipped to production. Usually this takes 2-3 months (including ramp-up time), due to which, we do not encourage internships of a shorter duration.
Haskell internship
- Newer modules/sub-systems in our product are being written in Haskell, while existing sub-systems continue to be developed & maintained in Rails.
- If you are a Haskell enthusiast, this could be a great opportunity to ship some real-life Haskell code to production.
- For short internships (2-3 months), you need to already be hands-on with as many of the following concepts/tools (more the merrier!):
-
- Practical application of functors & monads, eg. how & when to use fmap, bind (>>=), do-notation, pure, return, etc.
- Practical applications of typeclasses
- Monad transformers, especially ReaderT, lift, liftIO, etc.
- Stack & cabal
- A Haskell development environment that you are productive with (we don't want you fiddling around with Haskell+editor integration or learning Emacs+Intero during the internship)
- String / Text / ByteString and OverloadedStrings
- Lenses
- For longish internships (5-6 months), the bar for existing Haskell know-how is lower, but you should intrinsically want to learn Haskell. It's a steep learning curve and you need the inner motivation to keep you going.

UI/UX Design
- You should have some experience with user-interface design (eg. web-apps or mobile apps).
- You should be comfortable with a wireframing tool (eq. Moqups, Balsamiq, etc)
- You should be comfortable with a tool for hi-fidelity designs (eg. Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, etc)
- We generally encourage 4 months, or more, for a this internship because the cycle for a successful UI/UX project is longer (understand the core domain problem => wireframing => iteration => mockups => iteration => development / implementation => iteration during implementation => go-live!)
Visual Design
- You should be comfortable with the basic tools required for the job (eg. Photoshop, etc)
- Internships can be 2 months, or more.
