VP of Productivity Engineering

We offer a unique opportunity for a great engineering leader to shape the developer experience at Netflix. Over the last few years, Netflix has both grown significantly, and at the same time, matured their cloud-based technical stack. Here are some challenges we are facing:

At Netflix, we often find ourselves at the leading edge of larger trends due to our willingness and ability to be innovative, and the field of developer productivity is no exception. Many paradigms in cloud-based development that used to be groundbreaking have evolved for years and have stood the test of time, but some are showing their age. The industry as a whole is starting to identify new abstractions. For example, we are now investing in Declarative Delivery, a new way of formulating software delivery and deployment, in one of our flagship open source projects, Spinnaker. Internal adoption is in its early phases, but accelerating. On the other side of this equation, we will provide a smooth migration path for users of our highly leveraged, mature internal platforms, which is an interesting challenge all by itself.

In this opportunity, you will lead Netflix’s developer productivity team to directly impact how a rapidly growing organization of internal developers and analysts/data scientists get their job done. The scope includes developer tooling as well as frameworks that define the set of supported application architectures. You will act as a forward-thinking leader for developer experience as well as a key executive partner in Netflix’s Product organization. In addition to leading an extraordinary team, you will debate and influence business and technical strategies to help us maintain Netflix’s top spot in Internet TV and continue our quest to revolutionize the future of video entertainment.

• You’re passionate about developer productivity and have a strong vision in this space
• You are a strategic technical leader who thrives in roles that require taking on challenges with courage, but also compassion for users.
• You’re attracted by the Netflix culture and believe you can navigate it with confidence.
• You are adept at building relationships and trust in a large organization
• You believe in the importance of an inclusive work environment and the value of diversity, and have a consistent track record in this area.
• You have a knack for seeing simplicity in the middle of complexity.
• You have experience in leading large teams (80+) and Director-level reports.
• Experience in the Open Source world is a huge plus.
• Public speaking experience (e.g. at conferences) is a big plus.
