Workday HR & Payroll Functional Analyst

The Opportunity:

ApplyBoard is seeking a Workday HCM & Payroll Functional Analyst to support one of our school partners in Florida. This role serves as the functional owner of HCM and Payroll business processes end to end.

You will translate how People and Payroll teams need to operate into scalable, well-governed Workday configurations. You will ensure data accuracy, maintain audit-ready processes, and continuously improve how we manage the full hire-to-retire and pay lifecycle. You are the trusted partner who ensures processes not only work, but continue to work through change and growth.

What You’ll Be Doing Every Day:

  • Own hire-to-retire processes including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, job changes, transfers, leaves, and terminations

  • Manage organizational structures, supervisory orgs, and position management, including headcount governance

  • Configure and maintain Workday Business Process Framework

  • Support merit, bonus, and equity cycles including eligibility, validation rules, and configuration

  • Manage compensation changes and downstream payroll impacts

  • Configure absence plans, accruals, and time-off processes

  • Support benefits enrollment, life events, and carrier data accuracy

  • Ensure compliance reporting including

  • Support payroll processes including pay calculation validation and audit

  • Lead payroll parallel testing for releases and configuration changes

  • Coordinate with integration teams on general ledger, tax, and benefits carrier integrations

  • Optimize recruiting workflows and onboarding experiences

  • Support talent and performance processes including check-ins and calibration

  • Build advanced, matrix, and composite reports, dashboards, and calculated fields

  • Develop audit and exception reporting across payroll, time off, and workforce changes

  • Improve manager and employee self-service reporting and adoption

  • Maintain role-based security and segregation of duties in partnership with IT

  • Ensure data integrity through validations, EIBs, and reconciliation processes

  • Lead Workday HCM and Payroll release readiness, including regression and payroll parallel testing

  • Maintain documentation, training materials, and user guides

  • Manage and prioritize a continuous improvement backlog aligned to People and Payroll priorities

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday HCM with direct ownership of business process configuration (routing, conditions, validations)

  • Production Workday Payroll experience, including parallel testing and pay calculation validation

  • Proven reporting depth across advanced, matrix, and composite reports and calculated fields

  • Hands-on configuration of Core HCM, position management, compensation, absence, and benefits

  • Strong stakeholder partnering: able to run requirements sessions and turn business needs into governed configuration

  • Working command of Workday security concepts and the bi-annual release and regression cycle
