Head of Payments

Project Overview: 

The Head of Payments is responsible for managing all payment operations, ensuring secure, timely, and accurate processing of financial transactions. This includes overseeing payouts, refunds, exception handling, monitoring payment gateways, compliance, and collaboration with payment providers. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational management.


📌 Key Responsibilities: 

Payment Operations

  • Oversee daily and periodic payment processing, payouts, refunds, and corrections.
  • Monitor payment gateways for transaction success, failures, and exceptions.
  • Monitor balances, liquidity, and settlements to ensure smooth operations.

Team Leadership

  • Build, manage, and mentor the Payments team.
  • Assign clear responsibilities and track team performance.
  • Foster accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

PSP & Gateway Management

  • Serve as the main point of contact for payment service providers (PSPs) and gateways.
  • Verify and monitor partnership terms, fees, and service-level agreements.
  • Ensure PSPs and gateways meet operational and compliance requirements.
  • Track and resolve gateway-related issues, downtime, or failed transactions.

Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure payment operations comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements (AML, KYC, data protection).
  • Identify risks and implement controls to prevent issues.
  • Support internal and external audits.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in payment operations.
  • Implement automation tools to reduce manual work and errors.
  • Maintain clear documentation for all processes.

📌 Requirements:

  • Experience in payments, fintech, or banking operations.
  • Knowledge of PSPs, payment gateways, and operational management.
  • Leadership experience managing small or medium teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear communication and ability to coordinate with internal teams.
