We are searching for a detail-oriented and trustworthy transcriber to join our team. The transcriber’s responsibilities include creating accurate written versions of audio and video recordings, reviewing and editing transcriptions done by speech recognition software, and identifying any inconsistencies. You should have a good typing speed and superb attention to detail and be able to keep all sensitive information confidential.

This position is entirely remote and will report to the Certified Transcript Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding client specifications and noting any formatting or notation requests prior to completing the transcription.
  • Completing transcriptions in a timely manner and reviewing drafts for any spelling, grammar, or formatting errors, as well as other inconsistencies.
  • Adhering to all confidential guidelines and respecting sensitive information.
  • Showing up on time for scheduled meetings and court proceedings.
  • Communicating with the client or supervisor when there are issues.
  • Submitting completed drafts to clients and correcting any errors as per their feedback.
  • Keeping typing skills sharp by completing regular typing drills.
  • Legal Document Formation:

  • Create, edit and format legal documents to specifications using a variety of software applications.
  • Convert, clean and format documents to/from different file formats.
  • Perform data entry utilizing various software applications.
  • Transcribe analog or digital dictation files.
  • Complete all assigned jobs by the deadline in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information.
  • Follow established policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Bonus points: Has a solid understanding of legal industry methodology and/or experience in the legal or transcription industry.

Required Qualifications

  • College or university degree or court reporting/transcription certification preferred with 2 years’ experience in legal word processing or legal field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Express Scribe, Google Suite and other transcription software.
  • Ability to work through complex legal document markups and instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven with the ability to focus for long periods of time.
  • Ability to prioritize various requests and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with clients and team members in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
  • AAERT's (American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers), Certified Electronic Transcriber (CET) or other certification a plus.
  • Have a familiarity of legal terminology and jargon.
  • Possess knowledge of the legal system, general court procedures, and practices.
  • Possess excellent grammar, spelling, and language skills.
  • Understand the importance of composition and formatting.
  • Possess excellent computer skills and works well under strict deadlines.
  • Have a keen eye for detail.

  • The pay range for this hourly position is $20-$22/hr; however, the pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
